The comparison table above shows the main criteria for selecting your best alkaline water pitcher. Here are some guidelines on how do we select a system.

Replacement

Replacement cartridge is an important indicator of how good the filtration works. A great alkaline water pitcher cartridge can last up to 100 gallons of clean water before a replacement is needed to maintain the water quality.

As a general guideline, an average person drinks approximately 2 liters of water per day. The frequency of replacement depends on the number of people using a alkaline water pitcher.

The example below shows the frequency replacement of pH Restore, which is 96 gallons / 300 liters per replacement.

  • 1 person = Replace every 6 months
  • 2 people = Replace  every 3 months
  • 3 people = Replace  every 2 months
  • 4+ people = Replace each month

pH Level

A great system will typically produce a pH level of 8-10. Majority of the system listed above are able to produce such a good pH level.

Cost

Generally, for a high-quality cartridge,  the frequency of replacement will be lower. It saves on the replacement cost as well as the hassle of stocking up your cartridge.

For most cases, those best alkaline water pitchers will be slightly expensive on initial purchase. However, you save quite a bit in the long run when replacement cost kicks in.

Rating

While all of the water pitchers accept returns if you are not satisfied, it is always better to look at other’s review and rating on the product. It saves some of your time to return bad products and repurchase a new one.

Reviews will give you an overall idea of the quality of the product from an existing customer. That’s the only thing that we look for.

How To Pick An Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher

It is not hard to identify one of the best alkaline water pitchers in the market. You just need to analyze the following 7 criterias below:

  1. pH Improvement
You would want to get rid of those systems which provide low pH remineralization (8-8.5). As the filter runs longer, the pH level will deteriorate. Be sure to get an alkaline water filter pitcher which can produce a higher pH level.
  2. Pitcher Quality
Beware of the poor quality pitcher which will leak and breaks. A great pitcher should be built with BPA free material and consists of ISO quality certification.
  3. Replacement Cost & Frequency
Some products have low investment cost but unaffordable maintenance cost due to the low quality of the cartridge. Calculate the replacement cost before you buy the system.
  4. Remove Other Contaminants
The systems should not just add in alkaline remineralization. It should be removing major contaminants such as chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals as well.
  5. Size and Capacity
Depending on the size of your household, select the appropriate alkaline water pitcher to serve your family. Some alkaline water pitchers are great but the capacity is low which only suitable for single occupants.
  6. Well Established Brand
It is important to look for a well-established brand to make sure that you won’t have trouble to search for filter replacement after 1 year of usage. Google the company and search for their website.
  7. Customer Reviews
Customer ratings are often the strongest signals whether an alkaline water filter pitcher is great or a junk. Spend some time reading the reviews of the water filter jug to determine the quality.

With the use of 7 criteria, you will not pick the wrong alkaline water filter pitcher for your home.

  1. Aug 29, 2018
    Hi,
I live in Vancouver area, British Columbia, Canada.
I purchased Santevia Alkaline Water Pitcher, and tested it using pH meter and TDS meter.
    a. The pH of the tap water and alkaline water remained almost the same (it did not raise the pH).
    b. The TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) value of tap water and alkaline water remained the same.
TDS was increased only a little (from 16 to 18).
TDS should be increased to 200 ppm, but it did not.
So I returned the product and got my money back.

I talked to the manager/owner of Santevia (the company is located in Delta, Vancouver area, British Columbia, Canada), but he was found to be nervous to answer any technical questions. I asked him to send me the water analysis report, but he refused by saying that it is their secret information.
Before I bought the pitcher, he promised that the Pitcher will raise TDS value to 200 ppm.
If the Pitcher is adding minerals, it should increase the TDS value of the purified water, but it did not.
He also said that their customers like the Pitcher by the taste of the water they drink (not by TDS value).

He may be right because there are many stupid people who buy and use without knowing how to test the pitcher.

Based on my opinion, Santevia Pitcher is garbage. It delivers the same tap water, and nothing else.
This kind of Pitchers should be banned or removed from the market.

    • Hi RK, Thanks for your reply.
I am sorry to hear that you have a bad experience with Santevia Pitcher.
It is weird that the pH is not rising after the pitcher. Not sure you have got a faulty filtration cartridge as there are some owners are having the same problem. After they changed the filter, the pH became better now.
Through my experience, TDS includes the good and bad contaminants and couldn’t be used as an indicator for good and bad water.
TDS is good to measure when you are intent to remove every minerals in the water. Such as RO system.

Have you tried the pH Restore pitcher? It is a great alkaline pitcher and one of our recommended product.

      Thanks
      Jay

    • Why don’t you try testing your urine or your saliva for ph level? Its a very reputable company. One thing is for sure. If Vancouverites had nothing to complain about. Theyd have nothing to say…right?

  2. Hi,
I appreciate the feedback from RK. Thank you for taking the time to test the water and contact Santevia.
I’ve compared the water from three systems now: Nikken, Biocera, and Santevia. The water from a Santevia system tastes exactly like tap water. I haven’t tested it with a Ph meter but I can certainly tell the difference between water from the first two systems and Santevia water. I agree with RK…..for me, just by taste alone, this is not a good product. Then there are the little black charcoal particles that settle on the bottom of the pitcher… We’re told they’re harmless and will go away if you turn the filter upside down, tap it etc. After six months, they’re still there. If I need/want to eat charcoal, I’ll go to a natural food store and buy the stuff!
Santevia needs to find a way to eliminate this problem and to ensure they’re meeting the standards they’re claiming for their products.
